Missouri College Republicans Target Nixon with Ad
COLUMBIA, Mo. – After a strong fundraising quarter earlier this year, the Missouri College Republicans are beginning to make their first statewide play this election cycle.
On Tuesday, the group launched a new radio advertising campaign targeting Gov. Jay Nixon’s attempted cuts to higher education earlier this year. While the $100 million in funding cuts did not actually take place, the group is attempting to make Nixon’s mere suggestion of them in his proposed 2012 budget.
“Governor Nixon likes to talk about caring for students, but the facts show that he is misleading you. In January, Nixon tried to make Missouri’s Universities the worst funded the ad the nation, cutting their budgets by nearly $100 million,” the ad said. “We need a governor that is on our side, and Jay Nixon is not that guy.”
The group plans to begin airing the radio ad in Columbia this week, and branch out to markets across the state over the coming weeks.
To accompany the radio campaign, the group also produced a website, NixNixon.com, that will focus on issues pertinent to students. The website, the group said, will be part of an online advertising effort aimed at young people.
With an injection of national support from the College Republican National Committee and their own fundraising earlier this year, the Missouri College Republicans have led a persistent effort on campuses across the state, with four field representatives on the payroll.
