The University of North Carolina isn’t far from the site of Democratic National Convention.

Some UNC students are wondering why Obama hasn’t visited them. Given his tanking support among college students, so am I.

The Obama campaign has made a concerted effort to capture votes from the 18–30 demographic. Just this week they released a video of Barack Obama with actor Kal Penn, from the “Harold and Kumar” movie franchise.

Tomorrow night, young actresses Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Kerry Washington will speak before the president.

And last week, Obama answered questions on the popular website Reddit. He tweets, he Facebooks and he is unerringly cool.

Still, some young voters say it just hasn’t been enough.

Just 15 minutes away from where the Democrats are holding their big convention, students at the University of North Carolina told me they feel disconnected from the president, and they are disappointed that he didn’t visit their campus during his trip.

Ben Cole, a 19-year-old sophomore at UNC, said he doesn’t think Obama has done enough to court the youth vote, but he still believes he deserves a second term.

“He could come to our campus. We’re right down the street. They did say Charlotte was an up-and-coming city, and this is the college in Charlotte,” Cole said.

Jeremy Maynard, 18, echoed Cole’s statements. “He could come to this campus,” Maynard said. “He could talk to us in the union or something like that.”
