MTV Launching Reality Show About Underemployed College Grads
Well, that is the reality
In fact, the show is called Underemployed. This is big news, considering MTV is widely known as a liberal outfit. Still, it becomes ever more difficult for anyone to defend Obama’s record on jobs for recent college grads. The numbers don’t lie.
Shilo Adams of TV Overmind reports.
When you’re about to graduate college, you can’t help but dream of the perfect life your higher education will afford you. The fulfilling job that you perform well at and receive ample praise for, the comfortable place to live, the good-looking, supportive significant other that thinks the world of you – it all seems to be within reach by the time your four years are over. But on MTV’s Underemployed, all the educational training in the world can’t prepare you for a rough economy and an even rougher transition into adulthood.
Underemployed follows a group of friends that made the four-year journey with each other, having planned to dominate the world once their dorm days became a distant memory. However, life hasn’t exactly been kind to any of the five former collegiates, menial jobs, unexpected pregnancies, and rapidly diminishing dreams abounding in their first year out of school. The show will be the latest to tackle the current economic difficulties facing the country, as HBO’s Girls and the recently canceled I Just Want My Pants Back both told the story of directionless 20-somethings trying to find their way in the world.
Underemployed will become the latest entry into MTV’s scripted programming stable, joining the likes of The Inbetweeners, Awkward., and Teen Wolf in trying to carve out an identity for a channel so enmeshed in reality TV. The one-hour dramedy stars Diego Boneta, Inbar Lavi, Jared Kusnitz, Michelle Ang, Sarah Habel and Charlie Weber.
Underemployed premieres Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 on MTV.
