Mitt Romney is really taking the fight to Obama on the college vote and it seems many students are responding positively.

College students grab Romney’s attention in Iowa

Mitt Romney touched on a few issues facing our country during his campaign stop in Iowa Friday afternoon. One big part of his speech was talking to college students and how that generation is in trouble if Obama gets re-elected.

Walking out to center stage inside Northwestern College’s Bultman Center, presidential candidate Mitt Romney is greeted by hundreds of excited people. Many of the people are college students.

“The platform is really important to me so it’s just to know what they’re standing for,” Jeremy Ban Dam said.

And the crowd learned that.

“I believe he has some good ideas to get it under control,” Daniel Reeves said.

Daniel Reeves is talking about the country’s debt. During Romney’s speech some college students in the bleachers grabbed his attention.

“$16 trillion in debt. Thanks for making that. Thanks for reminding us,” Romney said.

Romney says we owe so much money because our country is spending more than we bring in.

“You see Governor Branstad and I we won’t be paying that back. We’ll be gone when that’s paid back. You’re going to pay the interest on it,” Romney said.

And that’s a surprise to many people in this room.

“It’s always a shocker to see how much we’re in debt to all these other countries,” Reeves said.

Romney feels it’s this generation that will suffer but if he gets elected he’s hoping to change that.

“This is time for a new president with a different vision for America,” Romney said.

To start off his speech at Northwestern College Romney talked about Obama saying he has tried to fix the economy but he doesn’t have what it takes to make it work.

“The policies he believes in and the direction he’s pulling will not make America stronger if President Obama were re-elected. We would have four more years of the last four years and the American people are going to say no to that,” Romney said.

And with that, this is why these college students are ready for a change.

“It’s tough now for students to find jobs within their fields and just finding a job alone is difficult so it goes along with what he’s trying to do for our government,” Ban Dam said.

Many of the college kids we talked with say they skipped class to go to the Romney event. They say they didn’t want to miss seeing a presidential candidate in person and learning more about his stance on the issues.
