Wayne State to end tenure?
Not too surprising when you consider Detroit’s financial situation…
As reported by The College Fix:
It could be happening at Wayne State University:
Union representatives claim that a proposal offered last week by the administration would do away with the traditional tenure system at Detroit’s research university.
According to Inside Higher Ed, reps for the local chapter affiliated with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) condemn the proposal for allowing WSU more leeway to dismiss tenured faculty members.
“This is an astonishing power grab by the administration,” Professor Charles Parrish, union president, told The Huffington Post.
In a statement shared on the forum EMUTalk.org, chief faculty negotiator Professor Anca Vlasopolos said this change would make WSU the first research university in the country to eliminate tenure, though a report by AAUP points to weakened tenure rights in the Louisiana university system.
But if you do away with tenure, professors will have to work hard and worry about performance. We can’t have that, now, can we.

Tenure is to malpractice as U.N. diplomatic immunity is to parking tickets.
Good grief! -211 votes and counting, but not one comment, thus far, in rebuttal to espouse the alleged wonderfulness of ‘tenure’.
Nice.

Interestingly, one of the stories featured in College Insurrection is that Wayne State may be ending tenure because of poor finances. […]
