SUNY Prof wonders who funds College Insurrection
I’m actually quite surprised College Insurrection was noticed so quickly.
But not surprised that once noticed, suspicions were aroused that CI is part of the vast right-wing conspiracy.
Jeffrey Miller is Associate Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
On his faculty blog Miller posts on a variety of topics, many of which involve belittling conservatives, such as Why Does the Right Hate English? and Contemporary conservative thought: pathetic. Nothing wrong with that. Even though he teaches polical theory courses, I’m sure, ahem, he doesn’t shove his political opinions down the throats of students.
As to CI he writes:
Huh . . . a new libertarian/conservative website for colleges
And with the oddly non-conservative title of “College Insurrection.” I wonder who funds it…
Couple of points.
Why would Miller say that “College Insurrection is an “oddly non-conservative title”? Is it because conservatives seek to preserve the current order? But in the case of academia the current order consists of liberals like Miller, so why would conservatives want to preserve that?
The more important point is what would make Miller suspect that College Insurrection receives funding.
Is the concept of a blog catering to conservative and libertarian students on campus so out of the realm of possibility that it must be receiving funding from some secret source? And what would be wrong with that if it happened, liberal foundations fund all manner of liberal activities on and around campuses.
Can someone please tell me who funds blogs so I can get some of that money. As of now your humble correspondent, helped by some advertising and donations from readers, funds both Legal Insurrection and College Insurrection.
We are not part of the vast right-wing conspiracy, although we would like to be.
Why does Miller even care? Is Miller worried that young minds might hear views other than his own and be persuaded?
As to how we knew Prof. Miller was writing about us, well, we have our sources.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Professor, you have just given this lightweight his 15 minutes of fame, and I am certain that is as good as it will ever get for him.
hahahaha
Ask not for whom the bell tolls, liberal professors
Perhaps there is a Southern Prosperity Law Center in the future which has the clarity of calling out the real hate groups and receives outside funding.
You’re working with DARPA, aren’t you? I knew it.

Associate Professor Jeffrey Miller asks: ‘…I wonder who funds it…?
Why that would be me, Prof. Miller. Just one of many, but thanks for asking.
.
That is one priceless endorsement from Professor Miller … to go along with the funding from the Koch Brothers and Gert Frobe Industries.
Why do so many in academia routinely prove themselves on an equal maturity level as their students? Sophomoric writings seem to be replacing comparative analysis, at least in the liberal arts. Perhaps a new field should be created for some who really aren’t comfortable practicing in ‘political sciences’. How about the ‘partisan arts’?
[…] reports that a PoliSci prof at New Paltz is already wondering about the source of CI‘s funding. To which I […]
I used to do some higher education writing/blogging on the web back in its earlier days, and like most such folks I used to hunt around for related websites that might link to me. I remember always coming across university-based education websites that were developed with grants from the Department of Education. They were almost always big and inactive. I could never believe how *setting up a website* was something you needed a federal grant for. These folks are so completely statist they can’t imagine there is a whole world of people out there who actually do things on their own.
Mr. Porcupine,
A little disclosure that you were funded by the evil Quills Brothers wouldn’t go amiss.
I did *not* receive any funding from the Quill Brothers. This is a malicious lie being spread by my opponent. And besides, I gave the money back. And it was Bush’s fault.
So Mr. PP, you obviously do not favor taxing the internet because Quill does not.
You really have to learn to make friends in order to influence people.
Being from a SUNY school, this is just par for the course.
Hey, wait! There is still no football coverage here! What is the point of a college blog that doesn’t cover college football?
I could do “live updates” on all of the Auburn games. That would bring in revenue like crazy! You could have a separate post for all the SEC games every week. You are sitting on a potential gold mine here…
Don’t let the secret out: KOCH BROTHERS! PNAC! JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSS!
Too many “o’s” in “Jews”, dammit!
George Sooooooroooos?:)
LOVE IT!
How much money does it take to host a blog, anyhow? I have not researched it, but I would think that $30 to $50 per month would cover web hosting and a big amount of traffic…how about it, Prof J??
His comment just means you’re doing it right. Keep it up, professor!
Well Associate Professor Jeffrey Miller the answer to your funding question is here:
We do it voluntarily.
We also fund your Associateness Professorism but in that we have no choice.
So Jeffery Miller is a confirmed Charlie McCarthyist. A woodenheaded dummy voicing someone else’s thoughts.
Am I the only who sits around waiting for my Koch Brothers check? You guys are doing it wrong. ~snort
